Ok, We know. Its hard to let go of summer…Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but so are the cold temperatures, Nor’Easters, and Leaves, Leaves, Leaves.
Its getting high time to button up the house for winter. And we’d like to give you a few tips that can help protect your investment and get ready to hunker down for the winter.
First things first: Get that furnace cleaned and tuned up.
With higher fuel and gas prices (predicted) like clock work and properly serviced heating system can save a huge amount over the winter months. Clean or change all filters on your HVAC system, vacuum and clean baseboard heating and bleed the system if you have radiators or radiant floor heating.
Secondly, keep those gutter clean. A clogged gutter can wreak havoc in your basement and lead to flooding and mold. Check, clean and make sure all gutters and downspouts are free of and obstructions and any storm drains and leaching pools have been cleaned also. Check also to make sure your gutters are hung properly. Sometime any ice build-up from last year can bend a gutter causing a fastener to come loose.
Thirdly, Get rid of any leaves around the base of the house. Leaves can me a fire hazard as well as trap and stop moisture from seeping into the ground.
Ok, we could go on and on, but these are the major ones for now.
If you ever need any help with these feel free to give us a call. We have a bunch of trade professionals that can help you out.
